Happy Friday!
I thought I would talk about an event that is close to home for a lot of us locals, The Salinas Rodeo. Since the rodeo will be coming up this month, I figured it would be a timely topic for this weeks Featured Friday. I wanted to reflect on all my memories during the famous "Big Week", the biggest rodeo in California that has been running annually for over 100 years. I've lived in the area most of my life and the other times, we still came for the rodeo. So many fond memories that will last a life time. My family would camp at the rodeo grounds all week and back in the day my favorite part was riding in the horse parade every morning to kick off the rodeo. We would ride in the grand entry and all line up for the announcements. Of course, the activities are what makes the rodeo what it is.
However, I just love all the excitement that comes to our small town. Everyone takes part in it. From dressing up and putting on our cowboy boots & hats, to local businesses sponsoring and decorating their shops, I love to see our community celebrate it together! The streets are bustling and travelers start coming through.
My current favorite part about Big Week has to be the newly added kick-off concert, Big Hat BBQ, PBR, AND of course the churros! You can bet you will see me at these events with a churro in each hand (and maybe a corn dog too!). So Excited! It's only 13 days away!! This year the Tim McGraw Concert is coming to our small town on Friday July 12th. Then don't forget the Big Hat BBQ on Saturday July 13th! They have the best steaks around! Then, PBR Wednesday evening July 17th. I love, love PBR! Hope to see you there!
